What are Meta Tags, Do I need them ?

Meta Tags are "Hidden" lines in the "Head" section of your web pages. These convey information about the subsequent page. Some of these hidden fields are use to describe the page itself. The main two tags that people know are the "Description Tag" and the "Keywords Tag".

Description Meta Tag - This meta tag is designed to provide a brief description of what the following page is about.

Keywords Meta Tag - This meta tag lists keywords that are relevant to the preceding page.

Meta Tags were once used almost exclusively to index your website in search engines. Over time however people saturated meta tags with "Spam Keywords" to the point where meta tags are hardly used for indexing. Meta Tags are still very important for advertising your website so don't exclude them from your next campaign.
